Book Club
For quite a few years now, I have had the pleasure of being a member of a couples book club.
It started out as a woman's book club. My wife was a member. Fairly early on, husbands were invited to join
and I have enjoyed it very much ever since. For years I have meant to post our "Books Read" list.
I just never got around to it. This last weekend a friend mentioned what a hard time her book club was
having choosing good books. That comment motivated me to start this list. A couple members of our club
deserve the credit for our group finding one winner after another. Below are the books presented from most recent to
furthest in the past. The list is short now, but hopefully will grow!
let the northern lights erase your name by Vendela Vida
We have not even discussed this one yet. I really enjoyed it. It is a fast moving book and easy reading.
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Relin
This is a great one. It follows Greg Mortenson's life from a failed attempt
to climb K2 up until 2004 when he is running a foundation building schools in Pakistan.
David Relin is the almost ghost writer. Greg spends a great deal of his time on speaking tours and I was
able to hear him in Belmont in February of 2008. His real message is that the only real antidote to terrorism is
to win the hearts and minds of the people. And school building and operating and
LEAVING the management to the locals is they way to win that war. A exciting book with a very timely message.
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
This book was a little more "experimental" then I usually like. Pages with funny text, etc.
Not my favorite but again well worth reading.
Atonement by Ian McEwan
I have to admit to not getting through this one. But, that was because I was able to go to the movie after reading
150 pages and I felt that I had gotten enough of the idea to avoid the final reading.
It is an excellent book. Probably even better than the movie!
The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
Another more modern one where scenes switch, time moves, etc. But excelent and I am sure you will enjoy it.
